"fishy business at
high street hostel"

The first annual Flying Fish Festival was held at High Street Hostel recently and heralded as a great sucess.
“Triple F, as we like to call it, has been the fruit of long and intense planning,” said MacP, owner and director of High Street. “We are just so pleased at how well everything has turned out.”
While some may tout the tomato-throwing festivities at La Tomatina, the lager celebrations at Oktoberfest, the musical mania at Glastonbury, or even Edinburgh’s own International Festival, reactions to the Flying Fish Festival indicate that High Street Hostel may become serious competition for these well-instituted festivals.
“I had such a good time!” enthused current resident of High Street and festival participant Bjorn Tubiwyld. “The fish were just so slimy it was hard to throw them and they were flopping around everywhere- it was hilarious! I think I hit someone in the face with one!” Calming down for a spell she continued, “The organizers did a really great job with everything, and I think it’s a really important move for High Street. We’re showing Edinburgh and the rest of the world that if they want good fun we’re the place that has it.”
Activities included, to no surprise, flinging a damp fish from the top of Blackfriars Street (where the hostel is located) in a competition for the furthest fish from the top, a relay race, aim contests, and balancing acts. Although not intentionally a part of planned festivities, rumours were flying of a fish-swallowing contest as well.
“I think it started as more of a dare than anything,” said Steffy Coelhar, “but I swallowed it! I didn’t think about it, I just opened up and let it slide down the hatch.”
Organizers and participants alike all agreed on a day well-spent and thoroughly enjoyed.
