What are the check in and check out times?
Check in is any time after 15:00 – however, if you arrive earlier you can drop your bags in our secure luggage room and enjoy our facilities until then.

Each key will require a refundable deposit of £10/€10/$10 or national ID when collected. This will be returned to you when the key is returned.

Check out is no later than 10:30 – for those wanting to stay longer, you can store your bags and enjoy the hostel all day if you wish.

Please contact the hostel if you will be arriving after midnight so we don’t think you have missed your booking.

What is the latest I can check in?
There is no latest you can check in time.

Can I leave my bags at the hostel?
Yes, you can leave your bags free of charge before you check in and after you have checked out, up until 9pm. We also have long term storage available for a small fee.

Is there bike storage available?
Yes, there is bike storage available. We do, however, recommend you use a lock .

What are the rooms like?
Twin rooms have 2 single beds, double rooms have 1 double bed. Dorm rooms will have between 6 and 18 beds and have bunk beds and personal lockers (you do not need your own lock).

Do you have rooms for families with children?
Unfortunately our guests must be at least 18 years old to stay here.

Where is the hostel located?
High Street Hostel is located at 8-18 Blackfriars St, just off the Royal Mile right in the heart of Old Town.

What is there to do in Edinburgh?
There is plenty to do both in the city centre and out of town. The medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town give Edinburgh it’s title as a UNESCO World Heritage Site so there’s plenty to explore as well as a range of other fantastic attractions, great shopping and of course Edinburgh Castle!

Out of town there are options such as the 15th Century Rosslyn Chapel or why not take a >MacBackpackers Tour< and get into the Highlands of Scotland to visit the mysterious Nessie and explore the stunning Isle of Skye.

How do I get there from the airport / train station / bus station?
High Street Hostel is within walking distance of Edinburgh’s St Andrews Square Bus Station and Edinburgh’s Waverley Train Station.

From the Edinburgh Airport take the blue airport bus no.100 (costs £4.50 one way and takes about 35 minutes) into the city centre and get off at Waverley Bridge. There is a bus every 10 -15 minutes to and from the airport.

From there walk away from Princes St. towards a small roundabout and cross straight over the roundabout onto Cockburn Street. At the top of Cockburn Street turn left and cross over North Bridge. Blackfriars Street is on your right.

Is linen included?
Yes, all bed linen is included.

Are there towels or hairdryers available?
Yes, towel hire is available for just £2 each, hair dryers are free to hire

Do you accept group bookings?
Yes, we do but for any bookings over 5 persons please contact us directly. Groups of 6 or less need to leave £10/€10/$10 per set of keys, groups of 6-10 must leave £75/€75/$75 exact and groups of 10+ must bring £150/€150/$150 for the group. This is refundable when keys are returned. Sorry, but we strictly don’t take stag or hen dos.

What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations up to 48 hours prior to the day of check-in – 90% refund (10% administration fee). After that you will be charged your first nights accommodation. No-shows may be charged the entire amount of their stay. For August and New Year’s a different cancellation policy applies

AUGUST AND NEW YEAR’S CANCELLATION POLICY

For bookings during August and Hogmanay/New Year’s Eve (or part thereof) additional terms apply:

Cancellations up to 14 days prior to the day of check-in – 90% refund (10% administration fee). After that you will be charged your first nights accommodation. No-shows may be charged the entire amount of their stay.

Are there laundry facilities?
Yes, laundry is available for just £5

Is there a kitchen?
Yes, we have a huge self catering kitchen available for guest use!

Can we drink alcohol in the hostel?
Yes. We don’t sell alcohol in the hostel, but there are many shops nearby where you can buy beer, wine, and spirits. Please note that Scottish shops are only allowed to sell alcohol between 10am and 10pm.
